This dissertation is based on research concerning the conception that women of a specific region--the Mixteca poblana in Mexico--have of their bodies. To carry out this research, we start from the idea that the body - specifically female - is part of a set of specific practices, those of medicine. The subject of the dissertation is located in the discourse, more precisely the discourse that the public health system addresses to women in the region, as well as in an analysis of the way in which they assume and/or modify this discourse.
